The snow has finally disappeared (well, for the most part)! The air is getting warmer and it’s time to start thinking about summer camp.
Summer is a special time for kids to explore the outdoors, learn new hobbies and expand their interests. The YMCA offers fun and affordable weekly camps for children ages 3-15 at the main Greenknoll campus in Brookfield.
If you have pre-school age children (3 & 4-year olds) there are half-day and full-day options to accommodate your child’s schedule. Pre-school groups are co-ed and children must be potty trained prior to starting camp.
For children ages 5 to 13, the YMCA offers a full-day program running from 9am-4pm. Campers are grouped by age and gender. A typical day includes age-appropriate activities which many include archery, art, sign language, theatre, music and sports.
Every camper at the Y’s Camp Greenknoll will have the opportunity to learn to swim during an instructional period in the morning as well as cool off in the afternoon during recreational swim. Each week, campers are given a deep water test. Those who pass will receive a “deep end” bracelet and the same for shallow end swimmers.
Lunch is also available for an additional fee each week.
If you have teens at home, the Teen Adventure Program may be the perfect fit. The leadership based program is for campers entering 8th and 9th grade. The camp is designed to challenge teens through project-based learning that encourages the development of problem solving skills and leadership qualities. In addition to the traditional camp experience, teens will also participate in field trips. Throughout the summer campers will face challenges affording them opportunities to learn new things about themselves and their peers.
